Is it HIPAA compliant
MyLifeKey.com and Sytec Health’s primary concern is the security and confidentiality of subscriber information, which is why the company employs state-of- the-art security and encryption technology to protect subscriber records. Our customers benefit from technology and security that far surpass home filing cabinets and computers.
In addition to user level passwords and data encryption, data access is protected through multiple levels of network security to prevent unauthorized access and to help protect the privacy and integrity of customer data.
All documents on LifeKey are encrypted and they are displayed in legal PDF images. Each LifeKey is secured by a unique user password.
We strictly follow the guidelines of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Who is MyLifeKey.com
MyLifeKey.com is a website for LifeKey, which is owned and operated by Sytec Health, LLC.
Our mission is to save lives, improve the quality of medical care and help to reduce the high cost of medical treatment. We intend to accomplish our mission by giving people greater control over their personal health by providing a portable storage device that allows them to carry their medical records with them at all times.
Password Protection
Optional Password Protection
If you would like to receive a LifeKey that is not password protected, you will let us know in the order process.
Password/Encryption Protection: Benefit or Barrier?
LifeKey offers the most advanced military grade password/encryption software to securely protect your medical records. The majority of our subscribers, however, view this layer of security as a barrier to its use. Many feel they control who can see their records by physically controlling their LifeKey. They think the password/encryption software is unnecessary.
In fact, 93.7% of our customers request that we send their LifeKey without this extra security layer. Most of these LifeKey subscribers say that they don’t want to have any barriers when that critical time comes and they need to use their LifeKey. They want emergency personnel to have immediate unfettered access to their medical records. They realize that their LifeKey can be lost or stolen but they are willing to assume that risk, and are not concerned if someone sees, for instance, their EKG.
A benefit of LifeKey is that your medical records can be viewed from nearly every computer in the world to provide the urgent care answers needed in a time of emergency. To satisfy both those subscribers who don't want any barriers to their medical records and those subscribers who want the ultimate privacy and security, we have made the password/security feature on LifeKey optional.
If lose my password
In either case, contact Sytec Health at 800-824-2365. There is a small charge to issue you either a replacement LifeKey or a new ID card with a new password.
Non Medical Records
LifeKey offers a PrivateSafe for your important documents.
You can send copies of your important documents to Sytec Health and we will add them into your own PrivateSafe on your LifeKey. The PrivateSafe features military- level security and can only be opened with a password.
Below is a list of items that you may want to put copies of into your PrivateSafe:
- Drivers license
- Passport
- Credit cards (front and back)
- Social Security card
- Birth certificates
- Children’s birth certificates
- Insurance cards
- Advance directives
- Living will
- Last will and testament

The PrivateSafe on your LifeKey is priced at $100.00 for up to 300 pages and $0.35 for each additional page over 200. All the documents that will be scanned into the PrivateSafe must be sent in a single package. This is a one time charge for the package and you must purchase it separately from the LifeKey store or call Sytec Health to order, 800-824-2365.
With identity fraud becoming more prevalent and with the fact that we are such a mobile society, it is prudent to take steps to protect oneself in a financial emergency. Just as LifeKey offers you protection and peace of mind in a medical emergency, a PrivateSafe on LifeKey can offer you peace of mind in a financial emergency.

How to view your records
You will need access to a computer to view your records. Virtually every computer has a USB port unless it was built prior to 1998. Plug your LifeKey into the USB port and a screen will open on your computer that allows you to enter your password. Once you have entered your password another screen will open that lists all your documents. To view a document, simply double click the PDF icon and the document will open, allowing you to view it on your computer screen.
You will need to have Adobe Reader on your computer to read your records. Virtually every computer made in the past five years has Adobe Reader loaded as a software program on the computer. If by some chance the computer that you are using does not, you can download a free copy by following this link:

Cancel subscription
Yes. You can cancel your LifeKey subscription at any time. If you cancel within 30 days after the anniversary of your subscription, you will receive a full refund of the charges made for the renewal year. If you cancel 30 days or more after the anniversary, no refund will be provided and you will no longer be charged.
The LifeKey will remain yours along with all of your medical information. Your records will be DELETED from Sytec Health’s electronic repository and will no longer be available for backup to your personal records. They will simply be gone from our systems.
After an office visit
We recommend that you download a medical record release form from our website, and take the completed form with you to your appointment. You can ask the doctor to release a copy of the record to you so that it may be added to your LifeKey. Not every paper in your medical record is relevant to an emergency room physician. You may ask your doctor to only copy the information that is relevant to understanding your medical condition.
What if Dr does not send records
Your medical records should be sent directly to you from your doctor's office. It is your responsibility to follow up with your physician to obtain your records. If after a reasonable perod of time you have not received your medical records from your doctor, we find that it is more productive if you call the doctor's office and let him know that you are still waiting for your medical records.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) clearly defines that you have a right to your medical records. As long as you request your medical records in writing, to be sent directly to you (and not to anyone else, like a new doctor or Sytec Health), the physician is required to send you a copy within a specified time period as defined by your state’s regulations. If you are having difficulty getting your records, you can file a complaint with the Medical Board of your state.
The physician can charge you a reasonable fee for the cost of making copies. If the physician’s office advises you that a fee will be charged for the records, the medical records may be withheld until the fee is paid.
Record Receipt
Each time a document is received by Sytec Health to add to your LifeKey, we will notify you via e-mail that we have received a document. This e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you provided us at the time of your enrollment.

Give someone access
Yes. The information is yours and you can do with it as you please. You will need to supply that person with your password if you selected the option to have your LifeKey password protected. When you receive your first LifeKey you will receive your own unique password on a wallet card. If you give someone the password along with your LifeKey, they will be able to access the information on your LifeKey.
Print records
Yes. When you view your records, you can print them or even save them to your computer’s local hard drive.
Duplicate LifeKey
You may want to have an additional duplicate LifeKey. Examples of why you may need a duplicate LifeKey:
When you carry your LifeKey on your keychain and you drive more than one car and you want an extra for each keychain.
When you have purchased a LifeKey for a child and want a duplicate to be carried by a parent just in case the child lost or forgot their LifeKey.
If you have lost your LifeKey and need to replace it, you can do so by ordering a duplicate LifeKey.
An additional duplicate LifeKey is subscription based. If you order an additional duplicate LifeKey you will be charged this fee annually.
